The Parallel Universe

I've been busy making blocks for various projects... BOMs, Sew-Alongs, and Guild projects... but the one I've really been loving the most these past several weeks has been the Parallel Universe Mystery Quilt.

I've been working on this project for 5 weeks... with just one week left to go with the release of pattern #6 next Friday (2/26/21). The three designers - Gyleen X. Fitzgerald, Ebony Love and Latifah Saafir - are amazing designers and quilt artists. Each one has been a wonder teacher and guide along this journey through the Parallel Universe.

I've posted a picture of the quilt top above as it exists now (with permission of the designers... and still needs part 6 sewn and attached). I have no idea what this will look like, but it will be a 'panel section' attached to the bottom of the quilt. Wish me luck on what remains of this incredible journey... I've really learned so much - esp. sewing curves and y-seams (butterfly seams!).

I highly recommend you check out the pages of these fine designers if you like what you see:

New Year, New Challenges

Part of ending the old year and starting the new year was preparing for new projects, new mysteries, new quilt-alongs, new ventures.

I finished up my Morewood Mystery top.. this was a fun mystery and I love the results... haven't decided on the finish for this one... borders?  no borders?  and who will get it?

I finished up the 2020 Bonnie Hunter mystery, Grassy Creek.  This one may or may not get borders before I donate it.  Not exactly my aesthetic, so I just know I won't be keeping it... Still, fun to make:

Also, in January, I started a new mystery called Parallel Universe.  The three designers are all awesome quilt artists and designers as well as engineers... and the design is awesome so far.  We did some practice pieces leading up to the release of part one of the mystery, and that, absolutely, has made it easier to navigate the actual quilt.  Here is the top so far... comprised of three sections (not divided how it looks though - all sections are rectangular or composed of rectangles.

I also started the new Pat Sloan quilt 'Home Is...', with some cool blocks so far, and the 2021 Murder Mystery quilt too, which is Caribbean/pirate themed.  Can't wait to see how it develops.  These are the first two blocks:

Well, that's it for now... more later or next month as time allows.

Finishing the Old Year...

Having not posted here for some time, I've got a lot to say and a lot of pictures to post... probably too many for a single post... But I'll start as early as I can and work my way forward.  First of all, I have no really good reason for not posting here for 2 1/2 months.  I was depressed and distressed over a variety of reasons... not important to discuss here as they were not quilt related.  I was sewing less... retreating into tv and movies more.   Still, many, many projects were in progress in December, some brought to fruition before the end of the year:

Here is my Ripples quilt top, the pattern is free from the Fat Quarter Shop and allowed me to use up a jelly roll from my stash.  I will donate this to my guild's charity.  They will back it and quilt it.

I decided I didn't quite like the original border I'd put on my Rainbow quilt, so I changed it out for a rainbow ombre I had in my stash... I like it much better.  Was going to donate it, but I just love rainbows and may quilt and keep this one.

And here at last is my finished 'Cozy Things' quilt top.  I decided to use Pat Sloan's layout and I do love it.  I will keep this one... Too many adorable cozy kitties to part with.

I also worked on finishing my Murder Mystery quilt top... I apparently haven't taken a picture of the finished top with borders... but this is the layout:  Just needs a little more applique now and it's done.

Now... on to January and beyond (see next post...)

Etude de Cabines, my first truly modern quilt

While my EPP has progressed exponentially, and I'm enjoying it a lot - I had to struggle to finish another project - A modern quilt usin...
